Testimonials

Jennifer G.

I have known Charles Bustos for over 15 years, and during that time I have witnessed firsthand his unwavering character, work ethic, and commitment to his family, his profession, and his community. He has personally trained me in the past, and I entrusted him to train my daughters when they were children. Through his guidance, he not only helped build their physical strength, but also their confidence, discipline, and self-belief. As a devoted husband and father, he leads by example, and that same intentional leadership carries into every person he coaches and mentors. He continues to be an outstanding example of what a strong, disciplined, and values-driven man looks like for today’s youth.

What truly sets him apart is his deep investment in the future of New Mexico. Through community outreach, volunteer efforts, and initiatives like Heroes for Heroes, he pours into the lives of children in New Mexico, blessing families and making a lasting difference. He also intentionally builds the character of other men challenging them to become better fathers, husbands, and leaders. He is a clear example of the values of an exemplary leader who builds others up and bears the fruit of a Godly man. We are truly blessed to have him serving as a firefighter in the state of New Mexico and as a pillar of leadership through FORGED.

On a personal level, his impact on my life has been consistent and meaningful. As a trainer and a friend, he has pushed me to be better while always leading with humility and integrity. I have seen the same intentional investment poured into countless others—men, women, and youth—who have grown stronger not just physically, but mentally and spiritually because of his influence. His consistency, leadership, and genuine care for people leave a lasting mark, and the difference he makes in the lives of others speaks for itself.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Charles in about 2007 or 2008 when we both entered Paramedic class for AFD. He was not one to talk a lot but listened a lot. One of the first things I noticed everu day he was his commitment to preparation. Always early to his seat, desk organized with books, homework, and any other items we needed. As school progressed, and we all got know each other Charles steadily moved to an unoffical leadership/point of contact in the class for questions on material and help with skills, etc. given his firm grasp on the very difficult concepts. ( If you ever attempted P School you know the insane pace of presentation, short periods to practice/digest, then test out and move on to the next block). He always displayed integrity with his decation to learning, and a willingnes to help others whether it was before class, during lunch or after class. When we had time - he encourage all of us to not forget the imporance of physical resilience along with mental, as it seemed all our time was either in class or in study groups after class (which he often organized) and would lead short lunch work outs, jogs, etc. to help keep us mentally balanced and manage our stress. After we graduated and hit the streets, over the next several years, I had the privildege of working with him in various parts of the city and continued to be impressed with his consistency to performing his craft as an exemplary level- be it paramedicine or supression. He often did (and contiues to) lead by example. Walking the talk in showing the absolute critical imporance of training (mentally, spiritually and physically) and preparation even as an officer. A positio too many feel they can relax in and preach instead of rolling up the sleeves and getting hands on with the crew -espicially the newer firefighters/paramedics. I retired a handful of years ago but certainly hold Charles in the hightest regards as one of the hardest working, most dependable, patient and capable men I was around. If I never said it before "Thank you sir" for being such a strong and well-rounded example for me and many others.
